Lister saves Supershear brand with acquisition move
Lister Shearing Equipment Ltd has acquired the Supershear brand and assets with the backing of Wahl Clipper Corporation. Supershear ceased trading earlier this year due to economic factors and changes at its parent company, Tru-Test Group.
The Supershear brand has serviced rural communities for over 100 years and is therefore key to Australia and New Zealand’s sheep shearing history.
Often still called ‘Cooper-Stewart’ or ‘Sunbeam’, the story began in 1893. Stewart & Clark founded the Chicago Flexible Shaft Company and began making flexible drive shafts and sheep shearing equipment. The firm became Cooper-Stewart Sheep Shearing Machinery Co in 1896 and then the Sunbeam Corporation in 1948. Furthermore, the Supershear brand name was founded in 2001. Sunbeam decided to brand all its shearing products as “Supershear” before selling its rural division to the Tru-Test Group.
Alun Williams, Managing Director of Lister Shearing Equipment Ltd said: “Supershear has enjoyed a loyal following for many years and has iconic status in the industry. With over a century of association with the rural community, it would have been a significant loss to see this well-respected name disappear.”
“Commitment and dedication to the future of this celebrated brand”
Mr Williams added: “Our intentions for the future of Supershear and its product portfolio are clear. Supershear has a strong global foundation in the shearing and rural markets. We want to build on this by continuing to manufacture products using the original Supershear specifications, designs and processes. Wahl Clipper Corporation’s investment has ensured all original Supershear machinery and tooling will be relocated to the UK. This further demonstrates our commitment and dedication to the future of this celebrated brand.”
Now in its 91st year, Wahl Clipper Corporation is an international industry leader in making clipping products. Wahl cater for professional, consumer and animal grooming markets. Based in Sterling, Illinois, Wahl employs 2,200 people and its products are available in 165 countries.
Excellence in shearing products
Greg Wahl CEO/Chairman/President of Wahl Clipper Corporation said: ”Wahl products remain the global standard for integrity, value and efficiency. We are proud of our heritage of excellence and committed to ensuring that the same traditions and values that are synonymous with the Supershear brand remain at the core of the Lister business. With the strengths of two world class manufacturing organisations combined we will bring value-added benefits for everyone.”
